A re-edited and remastered version of the single, Ain't Allowed to be Sad is about my personal struggle with finding time and space to mourn when every second seems to be dedicated to survival. One of my closest friends (who essentially saved me when I was at my lowest) died suddenly of a brain aneurism. At the time I was just so numb I couldn't stop and process that news. It was only a year later when my dog Freya suddenly died overnight from a simple vet procedure that I finally broke down while trying to bury her in the frozen winter Ozark clay-dirt. My shovel almost snapped in half and I ended up having to pay the vet to cremate her, money I didn't really have. Then I had to rush to a work meeting where I had to pretend to be happy and the lingering thought was "why am I not allowed to be sad? will I ever have time to be sad about this?"
